RESEARCH

Dr. Liu’s main research work covers software testing and software engineering. His research group has developed several tools to automate app testing and improve software quality, including Android crawler, incremental and interactive web crawler, cloud testing platform, and smell detection tools. Dr. Liu’s recent research focuses mainly on (1) GUI, Android, web, cloud, game, and IoT testing, through MOST and industry sponsored projects, and (2) agile process, code analysis, and smell detection to improve software quality and facilitate refactoring. He is also exploring machine-learning/deep-learning techniques for software engineering.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Liu received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Cheng Kung University in 1989, the M.S. in electrical engineering from University of Southern California in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science and engineering from University of Texas at Arlington in 2002. Dr. Liu joined Taipei Tech in 2003 and served as the director of the Graduate Academic Division in the School of Extension Education from 2008 to 2011 and the director of the Graduate Academic Division in the Office of Academic Affairs from 2011 to 2012.

ACTIVITIES & AWARDS

Dr. Liu has served as the technical program committee member for a few international conferences in the field of software engineering. He has been a member of IEEE since 2000 and has served as a council member of Software Engineering Association of Taiwan (SEAT) since 2017. His several open source research projects were awarded as the distinguished projects from Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan in 2011-2013. Dr. Liu’s research works on software engineering has received more than ten best paper awards in both domestic and international conferences, including TCSE, NCS, TANET, ICS, ICASI, and ISNE.
