Graduate Program Introduction

Welcome to the graduate program of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) department, Taipei Tech.

The graduate program was established in 2000. Both Master (M.S.) and Doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees are offered. Currently, there are more than 150 students enrolled in our graduate program. The program offers a wide spectrum of current computer science and information technologies, emphasizing both theory and practice. After completion, the students will be ready for significant computer-related careers and simultaneously for further graduate study.

The master students are required to take 8 technical graduate-level courses in addition to graduate seminar courses. Every student needs to take one of the following two courses: (1) Pattern-oriented Software Design or (2) Communication Software Design to enhance the object-oriented programming skills. The M.S. thesis is mandatory to partially fulfill the M.S. graduation requirements. The Ph.D. students are required to take 6 technical graduate-level courses in addition to graduate seminar courses. The Technical English Writing course is mandatory for Ph.D. students. An original and significant research work leading to a Ph.D. dissertation is required to partially fulfill the Ph.D. graduation requirement. A few courses are offered in English.

CSIE at Taipei Tech is distinguished for its research activities. The research grant comes from a variety of sources including MOST and other governmental institutes or enterprises. We focus on application-oriented research exploration and technology advancement, system design methodologies, and practical implementation experiences, as well as collaborations and joint projects with industry. Three major research areas include Software Systems, Multimedia Systems, and Network systems. In addition, state-of-the-art research topics such as Big data analysis, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented/ Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and Bioinformatics are also actively explored.

In summary, our graduate program commits to excel in developing practical and cutting-edge information technologies and educating professionals that meet computer industry needs.
