RESEARCH

Dr. You’s previous research mainly focuses on audio-related technologies and digital communications. The audio related technologies he studied before includes dimension reduction techniques (PCA, ICA, FA) for spectral-temporal features, music identification based on MPEG-7 features, low bitrate music fingerprints, onset detection, singing voice detection using HMM and CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) classifiers, applications of GA (genetic algorithm) for automatic chord generation, music similarity measurement, generation of virtual sound field and immersive audio based on HRTF, real-time MP-3 encoder, MPEG-2 AAC TNS, PNS and window switching tools, MPEG-2/4 scalable coding, MPEG-4 ALS coding, MPEG-4 SBR parameter tuning, and quality assessment of PS-encoded music. In the digital communications area, he has studied implementation of demodulation and decoding programs for ATSC 3.0, DVB-T, DVB-T2, DAB systems, DVB-H, and T-DMB, implementation of WiMAX and mobile WiMAX physical layer, channel estimation for OFDM-based receivers, FPGA implementation of DVB-T2 and WiMAX Physical-layer transmitter, and layer-division multiplexing.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. You received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, CA, USA in 1993. After that, he joined the National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. In his some twenty-five years of service in this university, he once served as the chief of computer network section of the computer center from 1995 to 1997, and the chair of the computer science department from 2007 to 2009. He was a visiting scholar in the electrical engineering department of the University of California, Davis, CA from 2010 to 2011. He has co-authored some eighty papers and book chapters for three books related to digital television and digital audio broadcasting. Besides academic research, Dr. You is also very active in solving industrial problems. He has a prolonged history serving as a contractor or consultant for many companies, including Ubiquiti networks, listed in Nasdaq, and Secom, listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange.

ACTIVITIES & AWARDS

Dr. You has served as technical program committee (TPC) for more than 40 conferences and reviewers for some 20 conferences. In addition, he helped reviewed manuscripts for more than 25 journals. He is the leading guest editor of a special issue entitled “Next Applications in Multimedia Computing” to be published in Multimedia Tools and Applications. Dr. You is a senior member of IEEE.
