Software testing, software engineering, visual programming, cloud computing, and software engineering education.


RESEARCH


Dr. Chen’s current research projects include: (1) android crawler – studying and developing an android crawler that can explore more GUI states by using a number of different crawling algorithms and equivalent strategies; (2) browser-compatibility testing – using a Web crawler to generate test cases that can be used to detect browser-incompatibility problems; (3) feature-envy detection – detecting whether a particular code statement is feature envy by applying dataflow analysis; (4) test input generation – generating test inputs for GUI applications based on machine learning.


BIOGRAPHY


Dr. Chen received diploma in Electronics Engineering from Taipei Tech. (formerly known as Taipei Institute of Technology) in 1984. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1988 and 1991, respectively. He is currently a Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and the director of Software Development Research Center of the National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan.


ACTIVITIES & AWARDS


Dr. Chen served as a member of Board of Governors of Software Engineering Association of Taiwan (SEAT) since 2005, and as a reviewer of SBIR projects for the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan, since 2012. He received both the Best English Paper award and Best Demo Paper award from TCSE 2018 (Taiwan Conference on Software Engineering), the Best Paper award from ISNE 2018 (the 7th IEEE International Symposium on Next-Generation Electronics), the Best Paper award from TANET 2017 (Taiwan Academic Network Conference).
